Actualy as this statement is mostly true.. The wild caughts are illegal to import making them illegal to sell or buy here in the states.. Captive breed are in fact for sell here in the states.. Pretty expensive though!!
David Blair is one of the best known breeders of the species here in the states. Check out his site.. David Blairs Cyclura iguanas..

Re: What if My Green Iguana.....

And as this is very true, with Hybrid meaning "a mixture of 2 different things," alot of Davids base stock of some 30 years ago was the orginal blue cayman.. It still shows in alot of specimens that he sells because of his breeding programs.

So point here that I am trying to make is if a person sees a blue cayman, or told that it is such they need to know that it most likely is not an orginal from the cayman islands as said because they are illegal, but it can indeed be one of the hybrids that looks just like them... even though Hybrid they are still called the Blue cayman here in the states.. Most people just leave off the word hybrid.. That being said it stops alot of arguments on the fact that we do have blues here in the States.
That is all I was trying to get at..

Greg, If your guy was sold to you with the label of Costa Rican Blue Which I see as a Spiny tailed iguana, what was yours.. Is it a spiny tailed or a green that is of different colors..? Just curious..

We need to stay on a clear track and not get confused on the issue of hybridization.

The common green iguana is known as "Iguana Iguana",
Green Iguana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Blue Iguana is known as, "Cyclura lewisi".
Blue Iguana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There may be some intermingling of species from time to time. But, the offsprings are usually born infertile and cannot produce a viable "Being" to reproduce and carry on the species to the next generation!

Re: What if My Green Iguana.....

The cyclura hybrids are fertile and reproducing. They are available in the "trade".
However What this poster has is likely a regular green iguana of the bluish colored locales. But weithout a picture or clear description we can't know for sure.

I am not confused re the hybrids.

I was just trying to get back in some gentle way to the original topic posted, re the non-banana-eating iguana, but I guess it's old hat now on this mixed-up (hybrid) thread. OK.

Re: What if My Green Iguana.....

Tammy, You are ok on what you said.. I myself thought it was reason to put a smile on my face..
But fact of the matter here is that ERA's 2nd post asked if anyone had a Blue Iguana and that is what started this debate. I think it is to the end and again I for one appreciate your humor!!
Later!!
