All you said is you give different types of lettuce and fruit, not collards or mustard or turnip.

Don't keep saying we aren't reading you or listening to you when you keep saying that you feed other things as well. Just cut out the lettuce.

Did you take it to the vet? What did they do?

Did you read the care sheet? are you going to get Green Iguana - The Ultimate Owner's Manual

You need to read, and read and read. read the iguana society web pages and our care sheet

yes I took him to the vet the lump was a secondary infection with an abscess I'm surprised how much stuff came out of it it went father then just the lump the bill was 321$! :/ he said my iguana is one of the most healthiest ones hes ever seen actually and that something poked him on the face hard enough to puncture the wound I will get pics up when I can I also have to put anti biotic in the wound and I also need to give him one in the mouth

and he also said it looked more like a female then male but to young to tell yet so I dont know

Re: Help My Iguana Has a Lump

Was this a vet that actually specializes in reptiles? Somethin there seems fishy, a secondary infection in an ig would make me think mouth rot which would lead me to think mbd, especially knowing that the poor thing hasn't had a proper diet or exposure to uvb. Just sayin...

yea some of what the vet said sounds kind of fishy. Tails don't have an average really especially because so many are broken a little off when babies.

Also, with out UVB and a proper diet and a huge abcess on its face doesn't sound like that should be an iguana that is the healthiest he has seen.

Secondary infection to what? Mouth rot? MBD? do you have oral antibiotics? is he on a strict calcium powder or liquid now?

What did he say about the diet? UVB? Cage size?

Re: Help My Iguana Has a Lump

He said he was ok in that cage for now but I have to make a new one.

And he said the tail is usually the size of the iguana and another half and mines a quite big larger then that.

He said i needed to get a uvb light. He checked him all up, felt legs, around the body, open the mouth for other stuff etc.. He said everything was good except the infection on the side of his face..

He also said the abscess could have have grown wider, about three times the size that it was if not checked, but not any deeper in that area. He's the vet for 3 other vets and mostly are hospitals. Luckily i got there today yes, he's on an oral antibiotic.

Glad you got him on some medication for that. Keep a good eye on it, that it really does shrink. If its not gone by the end of the antibiotics, take him back again, he may need it drained.

Do check out the mega ray bulb, they are the best out there.

Re: Help My Iguana Has a Lump

While you wait for a Megaray you need to get this light as in 3 months ago.

This is the book that you need to buy.

There is no iguana in the world that can be healthy if they eat only lettuce and if they do not have UVB exposure. I am sure your vet has not seen many healthy iguanas before.

Without the correct food, UVB and heat the iguana will get sick and die.

You said several times that your iguana refuse to eat anything but the lettuce in his plate. Dont even give him one bite of lettuce again, only give him Collard, Mustard, Turnip and Dandelion. Dont even mix in anything else for now.

Dont worry about him not eating for a couple of days just be persistent - he will eat eventually.
Quality of life is just as important as good health.

Or, while waiting for the bulb to come in, simply take your ig outside for some SUN. Best UVB out there.

And DO get that book! Petsmart or Petco carries it.

Your vet is mistaken. A green iguana's tail is usually 2/3 of the body's total length.
Another point I notice that the food is just leaves tossed in a plate. Try cutting them up into pieces. And grating any veggies. It will make them easier to consume and digest and will enable the ig to get more food into its stomach.
