I don't feed meat to my iguana, but I have seen on TV where a iguana will eat meat if presented.

I suppose a one time thing is ok, anyone feed meat on a regular basis?

No iguanas are strictly herbivores. They are veggie, fruit, vegetable eating machines.

What you see on TV is wrong.

And we are talking about Iguana iguana (Giant Green Iguana) here. Their cousins the Cyclura and Ctenosaura tend to be more omnivorous when young and then turn herbivorous when mature.

One time may or may not hurt it in the long run, like if you are eating and your ig eats a piece off of your food when you aren't looking, you probably don't have to run to the vet, however, don't do it.

It does nothing good.

An iguana's kidneys cannot handle animal protein, please don't even try it.
(My iguana would undoubtedly eat meat if it were presented to him, he eats anything. Food or not....)

Thats the problem. You see a lot of things on TV that don't make a lot of sense but since its on TV, its true right?
Iguanas will occasionally happen to eat a bug in the wild if its riding on the leaves that they are eating.
Back in the seventies, due to a misunderstanding of something a field researcher wrote, we were told that they needed to eat animal protein. What was actually written was that the researcher ASSUMED that baby iguanas would eat meat. Not that he knew that they did, but that he assumed that they did. Big difference!
That has been proven completely false. A diet of animal protein will overload their livers and kidneys and kill them.

Well, it's not like the TV fed the iguana the meat. A island rat has passed away near an iguana rest area. He went to investigate and ate part of the rat. It seems the iguana will test meat once a while, I doubt meat will kill the iguana once a while. Anyways, it was just a question.

Unfortunately they will eat alot of things they are not supposed to, including plastic bags, socks, underwear, coins, ect.
