Lip Damage

Tweak started getting what looked kind of a cut on the tip of his lip, now I got worse... Last night a scale on the lip broke off where the cut looking thing was.

Now there is a triangler area in the front of his mouth where his gums are exposed...

Does this need to be treated?

Will it grow back?

im worried.

Re: Lip Damage

I'm not positive what this would be, sounds almost like nose rub. I would suggest having him seen by an exotics vet.

Re: Lip Damage

If the gums themselves are exposed then a substantial peice of skin is gone! This requires a vet,...NOW! If the gums are exposed then the tissue will dry out and die.

Re: Lip Damage

I called the vet they said if it starts to look worse to bring him in... I actually dont think the gums are exposed... I managed to get his mouth open and it doesnt look like gums it looks like there is still a layer of skin still covering them... but of couse I still take him to the vet.

Re: Lip Damage

thats not good,, thats an open invitation for infection, and mouth rot. Did the vet tell you to put anything on it or give medication? You are probably going to have issues with him wanting to eat as it will be painful. Is he rubbing against the cage? What size cage is he in? How big is he?

Re: Lip Damage

his lip had a cut on it, and it was getting better and like 5 min after I checked it, he was missing a chunk...

His cage is pretty big compaired to what he had... in the pet store they had him in a 10 gal... thats not right... then I put him in a 40 gal, for lik 3 weeks now up to 3x3x3ft which I huge compaired to him... im not quit sure how long he is now... but less than 18in I think.

Re: Lip Damage

it is an iguana,, like I said a vet that is a herp vet is important. That cage will definately need to be a lot bigger soon. You are going to have a lot of issues with him eating with that sore,, I would really be concerned about that. It looks like he was rubbing his snout,, am I right?
