I chose other, but the true fact is there is never to many....but..its should only be what you can afford to house and feed.

I picked one. IF you can't house and feed it properly to give it the best care it requires. That goes for any number I guess.

Hello,

I too chose other.

The moment you are grouping herps together in enclosures that are not of adequate size, you have taken in too many.

The moment you have to skip their feeding because you can't afford their food that week, you have taken in too many.

The moment you can't keep up with the cleanliness of the enclosures, you have taken in too many.

The moment you decide your herp isn't going to the vet even though you KNOW something is wrong with it, but you don't want to pay the vet bill, you have too many herps!

The easy answer is "too many herps for some is 1" and for others there is no limit. If you have the space, time, and funds you can keep adding to it. If you don't, you have too many herps.

Do any of you fall into any of these categories? If you do, perhaps its time to stop purchasing or taking in herps and maybe reduce your current collection?

Indeed! The number of herps that would be considered too many is based on the amount of your dedication, quality of care, and ability to properly care, feed house, and provide medical attention. I know people who should not have any and I know other keepers with several dozen who's care is exemplary!

All too often people put the amount they would pay for a replacement up against the possible cost of a vet trip and the current animal loses out!

I agree, it all depends on the person who has them.

Mummhum Merlin. I dont understand how people can just "replace" a herp..it didnt ask for you to purchase it and it didnt ask to get sick...I think thats one of the worst things people can do if youre not willing to care ffor it like you would a child you dont need to be getting herps, or any other animal!

I agree! In fact when I first met the Dr who has since become my Herp Vet she seemed amazed (and very pleased) by the fact that someone would actually spend $200 treating a $12.00 cornsnake!

Exactly... like my mom who spent about $3,000.00 to treat a "free" tortoise!

I too voted "other" for many of the same reasons as already listed and one additional reason:

Some herps require more care than others and I think the ratio of "easy" to "difficult" herps is a factor as well.
