Which herp best suited to environ?
Which generalized herp group here is best suited to its environment and most resistant to changes?
Example: frogs are successful cause they can exist in legions but are sensitive to small environmental changes. Remember that environments are contantly changing, so you have to consider that success today might not mean success tomorrow.
NOTE: I left of turtles and tortoises because I'm mean.

I selected snakes because they are mammal specialists in a mammal dominated world. Their generalized body plan is efficatious in arborial, fossorial, aqueous or otherwise any type of environment. They can go very long without a meal, which means if prey populations crash they can survive until some kind of rebound (in the case of larger snakes).
Now here's a poll to think about!

I actually didn't vote for crocodilians, I'm siding with snakes as the diversity of this group is.. well.. Highly diversed.

I too will go with snakes! For sheer versatility in all environmental conditions (except cold) they can't be beaten.

Toads versus Snakes
I have to say that I lean towards the toads as an excellent choice.
-Their range is nearly, if not more, expansive than that of snakes in general (with the exception of the open ocean.)
-Many toads possess the same defensive mechanisms that allow snakes to survive (toxins), yet they inspire less hatred and fear than snakes world wide.
-It is true that some toads are vulnerable to the large variety of factors that plague amphibian populations (climate change, UV-B radiation, and fungal infection), but they compensate by being able to reproduce prodigiously.
My top three choices for survivors of the coming apocalypse: roaches, cane toads, and tumbleweed.
