The Look

The HC Network will be starting the new year with a new look and feel. As many of you may have noticed, this new style was directly aimed at navigation.

As you navigate throughout the HC Network, you may notice that a banner appears on the right hand side of the header. The look was designed to do this. This will allow you to know where within the network you are. If no banner is present, you are not using a specific "site" and are within the HC Network itself.

The Gallery

In addition to the new look, I have also activated the image gallery. You can easily find links to the gallery at the top of the page and in the slide menu on the left.

EVERY picture that is uploaded to the gallery is "branded" with a watermark to prevent theft and use on other sites. You will see a light text stating "Copyright 2004-2006 Herp Center Network" across the middle of the picture. This is a safe guard for our users.

The image gallery also allows you to directly pull your hosted images to threads and posts you create. Once an image is uploaded, it will display the code to insert into your posts directly below it. (Just like photobucket.) It is however safeguarded against "hot linking". That means you can't link to the pictures directly from other websites.

I would love to hear some input on this new style. What would you like to see, what could be improved, etc.

I may add updates to this notice as we progress.

Hello,

Everyone should now see the "New Style" that the HC Network has morphed into. Over the next few weeks you will be able to switch the look of the site according to your preferences. I will be upgrading the existing "styles" to reflect some of the changes that have been made to the site.

If you have some time, please check out the new profile layout. I have altered how the profiles for our users are displayed dramatically.

I have implemented a new "Member Gallery" that will pull your profile pictures from the database and display them in an organized manner for viewing. This will make placing a name with a face MUCH easier.

Everyone has the ability to upload a profile picture that is 150 pixels high x 150 pixels wide.

If you previously had a profile picture uploaded, you will need to reupload it. (If you want.) ALL profile pictures were dropped from the database while I configured the new gallery.

As a note:

** Profile pictures are for profile images and NOT pictures of your reptiles, etc. I will remove any profile pictures that are of anything other than the User. **

I have just purchased and am preparing to install the Article and Reviews System. This aplication will also be used for Tutorials in the future on how to use the HC Network and all of its features. (Which seem to be expanding at a rapid rate. lol)

The Article Sytem will be a structured environment where the HC network Staff and Contributors will display the articles that the HC network has written up.

The reviews system allows us to have documented reviews of products where members can post their experiences with particular products.

I primarily purchased this for the Article system but it has toys built in, so we may as well use them. lol

Can I make a suggestion? I think we should be able to comment on peoples pictures in their gallery. I know you can on a couple of other reptile sites that i've been to that have galleries. (Not that I would be unfaithful to HC and visit other sites )

For those of you interested in a slightly different look, you can choose a style I am playing with called "The 56K from the style dropdown at the bottom of the screen. This style is being designed for those users that have dialup connections.

Its "bland" in compasison to the current style, but it is pretty fast loading.

I am still working on it, so some things will change as I progress. I would really appreciate some feedback from the dialup users as to load times. Is it loading faster for you? lol
