Post Editing
When someone posts a thread, users can respond and subscribe to that thread. When someone posts to that thread, those who subscribed are notified that there are new entries.
When users post a thread and then edit their first post to respond to users, no one gets notified and most people don't reread the first post after they have responded anyways.
In addition to the issues above, a thread looks pretty silly with 5 people asking questions to things that have since been added to the first post.
Another reason to use the reply button is to place the thread back in the "New Posts" que. This makes the thread active for those who may have missed it.
Please use the reply button to answer questions. Stop editing the first post.
(I can see when users edit the first post, what edits they made, what day they were made, and even what time they were made. I can see this stuff even if you don't leave a reason for the edits.)
