Question: What is your relationship to your reptile?

This is what our member has to say: I treat mine better then I treat most people(including my BF) especially my Libilibi!! We have been through some rough times!...

I don't really have "emotional attachments" as such to any of my herps because their not like dogs that you can just hug. If one of my herps were to die id be more upset just because it died and id probably feel like I must have done something wrong. for me Depending on how long ive had it for, its more of a sentimental thing with them. I love my musk turtle Because he was my first real herp and I hatched from an egg. My Bearded Dragons I love and wouldn't sell to anyone for any price because I love thier personalities and they keep me company. Basically with me if I named it then that means its part of my family. If I didn't name it like I haven't my snake, Its not that I don't like it I just think of it more as a specimen and I just enjoy the **** out of taking care of it. I am however very upset over losing my nile monitor, I just really liked him as a pet.....Im hoping he shows up in the laundry or something becuase I just can't find him.

The 2 I have the emotional attachments to are Prydator my very first reptile and ball python and Falcor my first Bearded Dragon. Falcor often ventures to work with me and sits on my computer..(The doc thinks he's stuffed)...He only goes when we dont have patients. But I have been told on occasion, I spend more time with my animals then anything else...I am workin on that

I think of myself as an owner and a care-giver. I purchased them so, technically, I "own" them. All though sometimes I do believe its more the other way around! (Particularly with Zok the iguana!) However I take my responsibility very seriously. None of these animals asked to be purchased by me and taken into my care. Every single part of their life requirements is controlled by me.
I do have emotional attachments to many of them, but I have also in the past moved animals out of my collection when I felt it would be to the betterment of all involved.
Having an exotic "pet", particularly a reptile, is a lot different than having a domestic dog or cat. You have to deal with them on THEIR level, keeping in mind that they are what they are. You cannot turn them into something they are not, no matter how hard you try.
Thats where a lot of keepers get in trouble
