We also started out with the reptile carpet. Ended up with crickets, mealies, etc hiding under the carpet so they wouldn't get eaten. I was also difficult to keep clean, when you washed it out you had to let it dry before using again. Since I have switched to using paper towels in the bottom, it makes clean up a lot faster and easier in my book. But what do I know any way

No, sorry. I just meant I liked our Wild Bird store better than my local pet stores for mealworms. Didn't mean to confuse you at all. Your place for ordering sounds good. I was just surprised to realize that the company that sells the mnealworms to my bird store also sells so many other feeder bugs. Maybe I should buy direct from them... (Maybe I'd have to buy tons, though -- 2 geckos can only eat so much!)

Your little guy is cute -- I saw his picture!

On the topic of substrate I use shelf liner weighted down with slate and nothing goes under it...or I use repti-carpet, but I put the worms in dishes or handfeed so they don't get under the carpet.

Leo gecks are a brill pet and keeping them on sand is a way to make the enclosure realistic yes there is a risk and a very high one with younger gecks they must be kept on paper towel but they are alright on sand at about a year old they soon learn sand don't taste as good as crickets
