Let's talk about Penn Foster. (School options)
A little backdrop.
Some of you may know that I was studying to be Veterinary Technician, as well as Zoology and I actually grew bored of the courses. Can't tell you why, but it's really not all that it's cracked up to be. Anyway, I started Criminal Justice courses some time ago and it seems enjoyable so far, but Penn Foster (Not really familiar with this online course thing) sent me some course paperwork dealing with Wildlife/Forestry Conservation. I'm assuming since I'm taking Criminal Justice in terms to become a Game Warden, they sent me this paperwork in regards to it. I'm taking a guess, they got a hold of my paperwork or something(?); didn't give me any lead on to how or why they sent it to me, but it seems interesting. Something like a technical school, I can earn my "Career Diploma in Wildlife/Forestry Conservation in as little as six months! "-Intriguing. It claims I'll learn: Wildlife law enforcement and population management Forest ecology and protection Park and recreational facility operation Field equipment and safety And that's a little more in-depth to this field than what I'm currently studying.. I hate remembering dates.. Stupid numbers. But what do you guys think? Anyone familiar with Penn Foster? I get free binoculars. Thanks, Zane

Zane, the main thing would be to look into where you plan on using your degree, if you have a plan. When it comes state jobs some don't accept online degrees, most do, but it would be the worst to get and it be of no use. I've never taken a course from them but online course work in general is a lot different than classroom, they make up for that hour of lecture with hours and hours of busywork. But hey you could always use the binoculars.

I've never heard of Penn Foster, and I don't know about non-traditional college online programs. However, I'm taking online courses from Florida State University and a correspondence course from University of Florida for my Social Science degree because with work and family I can't make it to classes on campus, but Cody's right...it's hours and hours and hours of work. I think on-campus classes are MUCH easier. If I could go on campus, I wouldn't be doing online courses because in my experience going to class on campus is much less time-consuming. The only advantage of doing it online is that I can do it from home, and I don't have to worry about somebody watching my kids while I'm "in class".

Zane, I finished my bachelor’s degree through a blended program (met twice in class and the rest was on line). This was through an accredited university. From my research when I was looking to finish my degree, the online programs like Penn Foster web page, usually cost you a lot more then a traditional college. Many traditional colleges will also offer on line classes. Many time the degrees from this type of on line college is only worth as much as the paper it was printed on. If you would like I can try to research it more tomorrow at school (through career programs I work with) if you would like. But tomorrow is my last day of school.
