Can't help you with the mamba questions but to determine male from female reliably requires probing by an experienced person. The way to calm a snake depends on the species. some snakes are easy going and a snap to handle while others will take great delight in trying to eat your face.

Mamba's have been known to travel up to 20/kmh (20 mph ?) and the diet consists of rodents, and occasional bird, and some have been known to eat other snakes.

I like black mambas too - I have only ever seen then on TV lol but I love the way they will repeatedly strike - obviously not good for whatever is on the recieving end of the bite though
