Translucent vs opaque boxes for "rack" system

Hi!
We are replacing the entire shelve system in our storage room (where I keep our reptiles) and my current sterilite boxes will not fit the new shelve space therefor I have to replace them.
I can use some new ones that fit the shelves like a glove and have the necessary dimensions but they have just one problem, they are opaque and come in two colors: white and dark grey.

My current ones range from transparent to milky veiled transparent which allows me to see the animals inside even with the dim blue night lights.
Opaque boxes mean that I will have to handle the box to see them most of the times and that they will always see me from above =(
Common sense tells me that they will feel more safe in the opaque boxes but when it comes to keeping herps, common sense doesn't provide the right answer most of the times.

What do you think?

Thanks! =)

My suggestion would be the transparent. This allows the animals to see outside of the box as well as admitting light into it. Being able to see through the walls expands their world. There aren't many animals that spend their lives completely down in a hole.
With an opaque box you also have the problem of startling the animal everytime you go to do anything. They can't see you coming and don't know what is happening.

I have very transparent boxes for the baby BRBs (when and if they ever arrive) because I wanted to see in easily. However, when the humidity is right for the BRBs, the walls get foggy and I still can't see much!

I don't know how to advise you on that. I suppose it depends what you're keeping in there and how often you want to look in on them. I've seen something in another forum where a guy cut a hole into the translucent boxes and replaced the missing piece with clear plexiglass screwed onto the box -- making a kind of window.
Good luck!

I would always favor transparent to opaque but the issue here is that I can't keep the same boxes because they don't fit side by side in the shelves.

I'm going to have a section for arboreal geckos (to house my gargoyles, vittatus and future additions like Crested Geckos for example) and a section for ground dwelling geckos like current and upcoming Leopard Geckos.
