Attack of the killer cornsnake!
A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my local herp shop had gotten a hatchling Okeetee cornsnake in. Of course everytime I looked in the tank it was buried in the aspen and out of sight. This evening I asked and recieved permission to dig the little bugger out to look at him. I have known the owner many years so it was not a problem. No sooner did I have it out and the snakeling went into vicious psycho mode, tail rattling for all it was worth and striking (and biting!) repeatedly at my hand. Of course it was too small for the bite to be of any consequence but it did put on a heck of a show. It was almost comical. I have handled many corns in my time and never have I seen one with the ferocity of this one! It may have only been a few inches long but it had it in for me! Even after returning it to the tank it continued to be VERY aggressive and striking in my direction. As I went around to the other side of the enclosures it followed my every move sss-ed up to strike!
Just goes to show that even with a species as normally docile as a cornsnake you can still find one that has a severe case of attitude.

Ya need to get that one Merlin. It MUST be the reincarnation of Morgan Le Fey. You had better get her and keep her under glass. If she escapes, she could go after you again!! Been awake to long haven't I???

MUCH preferable to the bitey BIG ONES, Jay!
And one of the funny parts of it there was a woman and her young son in there who were looking at tree frogs. She realized I had the snake out and brought her son over to see the snake and "how fast it was moving!" Once she figured out it was biting she went to the other side of the store! I don't think she will be getting her son a snake anytime soon!

 LOL Great story Merlin!
Angela's right, you need to get that one - it obviously loves you and was showing you how much affection it had for you!

What a great story! It's good to know that other hatchling Okeetees will move as fast as my new one, but I'm glad mine didn't try to bite me when I held him at the store tonight. He just wanted to get away! Maybe you should get that one... he really needs you to show him that life (and being held) isn't so bad as all that. I'm hoping that my new fellow will slow down and mellow out when he's settled in...
