Force feeding techniques

Hi!
For the last week I've been force feeding my bearded dragon with an insulin syringe. I'm force feeding him because he won't take food any other way.

I've tried a few things from letting it drip on the tip of his nose so that he could lick it off (which is a tedious and not very effective method) to bind his body with a towel or cloth and force his lower jaw down with the syringe pressing the lip bellow the nose (which is a faster and better successful method).
Regarding this last method, I'm concerned that I might hurt him on the lower lip when I push down so I would like to ask you to share any tip you might have to force feed them.

Thanks!
Ricardo

Ricardo you can take a piece of thin cardboard, business card, credit card etc (you get the idea) and put it between the front of their lips,,,he will open his mouth then you can put the syringe in at the same time...Hope that helps

I have been having to do the same thing with my male. Try slipping the syringe tip between the side of his lips and squirt a couple of drops in. this usually causes him to open his mouth and I can slip the syringe in.
He does chew the dickens out of the syringe though.

Merlin, that doesn't work with mine. Btw, can I ask why do you have to force feed your male Bearded Dragon?

I would put some type of soft rubber at the end of the syringe also, to avoid damage to his teeth. I used a credt card to get my non eaters mouths open

I thought of that but didn't get past the part where the soft rubber piece is ripped apart and swallowed

Sorry for the second post but missed your reply.
You mean your Bearded Dragon is not eating because it's spring time and his hormones are bouncing like crazy? How old is he? Is this common among males?

Apparently it is. I discussed this with Marsha.
Its her liquid formula that I am using.
I was also concerned with the dragon biting off the soft rubber end. With what he has done to the plastic syinge tip I wouldn't doubt that the soft rubber would soon be torn off and swallowed.
