Pet Stores
Yesterday I went to a pet store and they had pets that were in really bad shape. They had a Nile moniter thatyou could see his ribs. Some of the lizards had there tails cut off and some still had layers of old sheded skin. They used to have 30-40 garter snakes in a 5-gallon tank. Stuff like that makes me angry.

We run into this factor all the time. Even though we report them to the managers, main office etc. no one cares.
We know of a store that had a sick leopard gecko so they threw it in a mealworm colony and let it be eaten alive. Animals are neither property, nor pets; they are companions. We share this earth with them and we protect one an other. |

if I saw a petshop like that, i'd write a strongly worded letter about it to the spca. have them shut down or fined.
i just did a quick google search for 'reporting cruel petshops' and the first thing that came up was http://www.pet-abuse.com it appears to be a nationwide organisation to reprt and prevent cruelty to animals. they have a section for how to go about reporting a petshop to all the proper people at http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/anima...pet_stores.php

Actually the store he is talking about is a locally own pet and feed store. They also will dye the coats on bunnies pastel colors for Easter. The local paper has taken pictures of the bunnies for the front page. This really made me mad when I was raising bunnies as I knew it was harmful. But if you have the paper promoting this practice everyone thinks it is ok.

The chains do not have a monopoly on neglect and abuse.
I have been in small independant shops that turned my stomach.
