why the stigma attached to skunks
you know, i'm baffled.
i was informed by many that skunk geckos are tempermental, nasty, nippy, ect......... well, sheena of the jungle over here still buys one, convinced that she has the power to tame one. i really don't think it's me, these are fabulous friendly lizards that are a pleasure to handle. darkling loves being handled and if a warm loving creature...........just look at this pic!!!!!!! i'm such a retard, but I think my point is conveyed. does anyone have a clue as to why such a stigma with these little buggers............. peace to all, guinevere ![]()

Well... I've seen dozens of photos (not only of the g. vittatus but also of their close tokay cousins) where they are biting and holding fingers, hands, etc and not letting go. One of these photos showed one still holding the finger even under running water, so I suppose their reputation is deserved.
That being said I must also add that the opposite also happens. Bearded Dragons are known and recommended for their calm and tame nature, nevertheless from time to time there are people posting about their "very aggressive" Bearded Dragons here. And although it might seem, I'm not trying to minimize what you have accomplished, which is incredible from my point of view as another vittatus owner, but to state that some animals are less aggressive and with the proper handling they can become tame like yours. Sadly, from some experiences I've read, for most people this is not the case. Animals remain aggressive even after years of handling. As for me, I reach a level where she doesn't run away when I approach her enclosure. Progress I suppose =)
