    Disgusted by TV!

I was watching Fear Factor tonight and one of the tasks shown was this "coffin" that they put the girl into that they dump worms on her feet, hissing cockroaches on her head and the worst part that really made me mad was when they dumped two large containers full of snakes on her and had her pick out the white one's and throw them into a bucket as fast as she could.
They were all really beautiful cornsnakes and milksnakes and the way she just grabbed them and threw them was horrible, I'm sure the snakes must have gotten injured in the process of the show. I'm just really mad that something like that is considered "entertainment" and I had to vent so I figured that you guys would be the right one's to vent to. Has anyone else seen things like that on TV?

We have watched Fear Factor a couple of times here in the UK. Last one we watched they had some little green snakes on it (don't know what type although the presenter said they were veneomous!) They put them in a box which the persons head was in and then spun them round 3 times on a wheel type machine - the poor snakes were being slopped around like mad - along with cockroaches and crabs.

How these people come up with the rubbish they put on the shows astounds me - here is us, trying to educate people about the joy of herping an there is them saying - "yes, if you want to scare the **** out of someone, stick a snake and a few harmless bugs on their head". It is crazy to call this entertainment but unfortunately, that is what people these days want to see!

I fully understand your anger Beth and agree that we should be able to vent our anger between ourselves about this

As long as people continue to tune in and watch this drivel it will remain on the air. Low ratings mean no advertising money and that means the show goes away. Unfortunatly there are enough folks who keep watching it so the show goes on.
The best way to "vent" is not on the forum but to the show's producers as well as writing to the product advertisers who actually are funding the show. Explain your concerns and tell them you aren't going to watch this show anymore if this sort of thing continues.

thats the stupidest and most inhumane show...aside from austin stevens of course *bleh*, but really the only thing you can do is vent.

But, i do think there are laws regaurding the exploiting of people picking up snakes with their mouths. Especially those people who get a little too caught up in the moment, and actually bite the snake. I doubt that little "no animals were harmed in the making of this show" thing really applied to this show.

    Makes me mad.

    Hello,

I was just watching it the other day and they had a bucket of water with around 30 or so ribbon snakes and one small albino burm it looked like. The people had to bob for apples in the water. That kind of stuff just puts a pit in my stomach.

It makes me sad to see animals treated like that, I KNOW that animals are harmed in that show. It should be off the air for that kind of thing. I know it's not a show I want to see again.

what can be done about it? i doubt anything. Suppsedly if there are any animals on a show, a humane society affiliate should be there to supervise and make sure no animals are harmed....it just doesnt seem like there was anybody there...either that or the person who supervised was just plain dumb.

Wouldn't bobbing for apples in a bucket of snakes make the snakes more aggressive? What about putting them in a bucket of water in the first place. These breeds aren't water snakes (at least I don't think so, but could be wrong I'm good at that). Sorry we haven't had cable in almost 2 years and the few times I saw it while flipping channels discussed me. Maybe we should hook Fear Factor up with the Animal Planet programs where the animal control investigates cruelty to animals?
