Tegu's black + white

Ummm hi everyone;

Paula just informed me that part of the reason she's NOT getting the red tail boa is she's been making arrangements to get a Argentina Black + white tegu for me.
She seems to think I would enjoy just as much as my snakes.
LOL The only thing is I don't know much about them and what they need.
She said she was getting me a baby so I can train it. LOL Can they be trained?
Better question is what do they need as far as the home and everything???
LOL HELP!

I'm not up on all about Tegus but in general lizards require a lot more care and maintanance than snakes.

Great link Jay, a very interesting read. Joe would love a b&w tegu,. we need to get a bigger house first though as they are big lizards! Good luck though

First hand experience here:

I had a pair of argintene black and white Tegus staying at my home for around 2 months. They are extremly intellegent. Dont ever underestimate them, or you will regret it. They can be trained to do some things, but not a ton. Trim their nails, watch their jaws (I got bit twice on the foot).

Jem:

They are a buddy of mines, he has them now. He needed a place to keep them until he could properly house them and I volunteered. I did some things wrong, but I feel comfortable telling you that I free roamed them. The male had a bad habit of crawling into my bed, the female liked to try to bite my toes.

Also - they can push open doors - climb nearly vertical surfaces for short distances. Understand how to use a designated are for defication. Very smart animals. The first time you say: "Oh, they cant do that" you're gonna be proven wrong.

How big were they? I'm intrigued by this...can ya tell?
I have a 5 ft Iguana and she's a handful sometimes. I couldn't image TWO of her running about the house like dogs! LOL
Did they have a cage at your house at all?
I wish I could free roam my Ig but I have 5 big dogs and they would squish her. The dogs never look where they are going, they just think Mom has some FOOD in her hands all the time! LOL

I read the link you posted Jay. Thanks so much for hooking me up with that!
I'm going to do more research on them before I comit to accepting it. She told me it was going to be a christmas gift anyway so I do have time to research and get what it needs if I so decide to accept.
Thanks Again everyone
