First time catching wild snake

Okay, so I've handled many captive snakes in and have no problems with handling them. However, with wild snakes, I only capture them with a camera.

Well, at my job (at the SC Aquarium) a coworker that knows my passion for snakes came to my window by ticketing and said that there was a snake on the side walk. I immediately ran out and found a young black racer coiled and ready to strike. He obviously was nervous from the crowds around him. I would just lift my boot to him when he struck and I finally took my id badge off to distract him (yes, I know he's not venomous but I would like to keep my "never been bit" record as long as I can ). I came from behind his head and got him.

I radioed our herpetologist and he met me outside to give him a quick once over. He was healthy and very active. Unfortunately, there isn't much green for a snake to live around our building but we found a decent spot to release him again. He explained that we would not be able to keep him because they are so difficult to maintain in captivity. I was still happy because I was able to get him, make sure he was okay and release him a bit farther away from people.

Sean brought home a bucket and when ever a bucket comes home look out. He bought home a garter snake from my sister. It was about 2' long and about the size of a quarter in diameter. Unfortunately he lost it in the house, still haven't found it, I think it made it way outside as we found one about the same size in the backyard.

Way to go Red! When you do get used to it come on down and help Becca catch wild corn snakes and yellow rat snakes in the back yard.

Good job Red, you probably saved it from one of the "non-snake people" in the crowd.
