Okay, so I've handled many captive snakes in and have no problems with handling them. However, with wild snakes, I only capture them with a camera.
Well, at my job (at the SC Aquarium) a coworker that knows my passion for snakes came to my window by ticketing and said that there was a snake on the side walk. I immediately ran out and found a young black racer coiled and ready to strike. He obviously was nervous from the crowds around him. I would just lift my boot to him when he struck and I finally took my id badge off to distract him (yes, I know he's not venomous but I would like to keep my "never been bit" record as long as I can

). I came from behind his head and got him.
I radioed our herpetologist and he met me outside to give him a quick once over. He was healthy and very active. Unfortunately, there isn't much green for a snake to live around our building but we found a decent spot to release him again. He explained that we would not be able to keep him because they are so difficult to maintain in captivity. I was still happy because I was able to get him, make sure he was okay and release him a bit farther away from people.
