Raw driftwood and making it safe for python

If any one knows off the top of their head, I would like to know the best way to get raw driftwood safe and ready for my use in my Burmese Python's enclosure. I have it now and I'm ready to hook-up Dubious. It turns out that driftwood really does just drift up onto the shore in brackish areas.

Oh yea, I've got a safety tip for anyone thinking about foraging their own driftwood, .......Um, critters live in those cool mangrove trees and roots where the driftwood gets caught. I expected the crabs but when I least suspected it some mutant unidentifiable fuzzy animal, probably a large raccoon either with rabies, or protecting a nest jumped out at me with a noise that made me jump back before I even registered the sound.

I'm guess I'm not the only one who finds those caverns that roots make really cool.
