UTH placement
I have a question of what location do I put the Under Tank Heater? I have the heat lamp on one side with a hide and on the other side I have a rock hide with a Under Tank Heater on the other and I have that like that for warmth at night it stays around 70 to 75 at night. But if I leave that on all the time with the light, is that to much heat during the day, it gets around 86 to 90?
Should I put the (heating pad) on the side with the lamp and let the other side be real cool. In the rock hide I keep wet moss inside? I attached the best pic I have of it! The heating pad is the blue pad under the right side.

I don't know but I would suspect that it would be high 70's to mid 80's! not sure with the moss being wet all the time and the vegitation being sprayed two or three times a day!

Hello,
You should get a thermometer for both ends of the enclosure so you can monitor the temps as you adjust the placement of everything. This is the only way you will be able to get accurate depictions of what you may need to do to create a decent heat gradient. |

I guess what I'm looking for is, when they say they need a warm hide and a cool hide so they can regulate their body temp, what are the two different temps that I'm looking for, for both sides? And Its for a AFT!

Hello,
I personally don't own AFT,s so I am not certain as to what their temp requirements are. With all reptiles though, there is a gradient that needs to be created. Lets say for example that the temperatures in the enclosure were 85 degrees. If the ambient (air) temperature in the enclosure was 85 degrees all the way across the enclosure, the reptile would have little chance to thermoregulate if it chose to as it wouldn't be able to find a "cooler" temperature. Hopefully someone that keeps these animals will be of more assistance. |
