I am in the process of ordering crickets over the internet, and of course I have to order them with the lowest amout being 250!
So I have been studying and preparing to get these in the mail. I have read more than once, actually 3 books from the library and several websites that you can put dog food in their container for them to eat and when you are ready to feed your herp, the day before take them out put them in to a little cricket keeper and gut load them and dust them!
Is this a good Idea or even for that fact is it healthy for my African Fat-tailed Gecko, or any Herp?

Well Crickets do need to eat. But about the dusting evcery feeding, I wouldn't advise that

Feeding the crickets is a good idea. They can and will eat just about anything. When I was breeding crickets, I fed a regular diet of vegetable table scraps. I also offered cat or dog food as well as baby food.

Supplementing should not be done at every feeding. I am not certain as to how often you should supplement AFT's, so hopefully someone that owns them will be able to help with that.

The red dye used in some dog foods is known to be toxic to snakes.
As such I would think that there is a possibilty that it may also be harmful to other reptiles but I am not sure on this.
