mealie's
How do you feed meadie's? In a dish? Or just turn them loose?
A friend that has a Bearded Dragon said she had to cut the heads off of them before feeding them to her BD, because the mealie's have pinchers and when digested they bite the insides of the lizard! Is this true or false? These might be stupid questions, but for the one week that I have owned my AFT, which is the first time I have ever owned a lizard of any kind, I have feed it crickets, and just for something different I was going to feed it some mealie's. So whats going on with the mealie's! |

There is no such thing as a stupid question...only one thats not asked
. There is a dish made just for mealworms. If you have a petsmart in your area they carry them, or dont mind ordering online, Here is a link from another thread where you can also order it. http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog...erra-worm-dish/ Mealies cannot eat a lizards stomach. The dragon will chew it up and once in the stomach it will start to be digested.

Mealies are harmless to your lizard...they drown almost instantly....so dont worry about them biting the insides of your lizard. I feed mealies almost exclusively to my leopard geckos...so your AFT should be fine...I give crix like twice a week...just to keep their hunting instincts sharp....I put my mealies in a smooth glass bowl...and 99 percent of them stay in.....good luck...Lyn

The bit about mealies eating thru the stomach of a lizard is an old myth.
Unfortunately it is STILL being spread around!

Yeah I hear it still also.
I just throw my mealies in front of them. They gobble em right up. The Leopard Geckos that is. My Chameleon has a "feeding dish" anyways so thats where they go for him. Congrats on the new lizard! I am also from Ohio, where about are you? I don't see AFTs around here.

Since I put my leo on shelf liner I have to put the mealies on a peice of paper towel otherwise she just pushes them around the tank with her nose until she gets them stuck behind something and can't pick them up. she doesnt see them if I put them in a dish, and I think the paper towel lets them get a grip so they dont move when she tries to pick them up.

I from Marion, and you?
I went to every pet store between here and the petsmart I bought him at and none carried supplies for lizards of any kind. Petsmart only had four when I first seen them and when I went back a week later there were only three, the one I wanted was the one that was gone, but this one is cool too. I'm going to take some pic's maybe today and post them. So I can just put them in a little dish that it can get in to, like a little ziploc bowl? How many should I feed it? Same amount as crickets? |

I put 2 mealie's in last night and both of them dug in the sand and totally buried themselves, will my gecko root them out?
I don't have a dish, I figure they will do the samething, just crawl out and dig in. How do I feed them to my lizard ? It eats at night, I just put them in before I go to bed and what ever it doesn't eat by the next morning, I take out! |
