PetStore Reform
I was at teh petstore today and finally worked up the curage to make some suggestions about the reptiels their selling, i focused on the iguanas and water dragons.and he seemed to know exactly what it took to take care of them and said how he's talked alot of people out of buying them just by telling them the adult size.
I suggested leopard geckos and crested geckos as alternitives and he said he'd love to be able to have them but the boos has to go with the cheaper animals becuase no one around here wants to pay the money for the good reptiles.
Im going to print and copy some caresheets for teh herps he does have so maybe he'll give them out or hang one near the cage so people know what their geting into.
whats the averge price for a leo or crestie? he said if I saw someplace they could afford that he'd see if the boss would consider selling them instead of iguanas and WDs.
if anyone knows where I can find good prices on them to show him then maybe I can show him how to make a good sales pitch on them like "well yes this animal is more expensive than the iguana but it cost alot less to house." This petstore is mainly fish, and the fish look great so I dont think i'll have a problem geting their herps to look great too.

Leopard Geckos and Crested Geckos are not very expensive lizards if you get normal morphs. Some of the less stunning morphs are not quite expensive but a normal crestie goes for around 40-50 bucks and a normal Leopard Geckos goes from around 20-50 bucks. I got my Leopard Geckos for 30 bucks each. and I was going to get two criesties for 50 each.

Great work Jade and good luck! Unfortunately that seems to be the all too common mentality of pet stores. Sell a lot of cheap disposable animals. So what that the average person has not got a clue about what that cute little green lizard is going to become.
If it survives their "care"!

Well compared to the $5 dollar anoles and I think the iguanas and WD were 10-15 , a leopard aor a cresty is considered expensive, but they do sell bearded dragons which puzzles me, it took them a year to sell the last 2 and they got 2 new babies. that are $150 each. maybe they just like teh Bearded Dragons, i think even if I dont find a price they like I can convince them that the geckos are worth getting.

Maybe they need to re-think their pricing structure!
$150 dollars for a baby Bearded Dragon! Our local Herp Shop routinely has them for about $40-$50 each!

I'll try to find out more, maybe they just dont have a decent supplier? I remember the first of the 2 baby Bearded Dragons was very small, they where really concerned that it wouldnt eat becuase they had to cut up crickets to make them small enough. I gave them some rep-cal pellets to try since they would be small enough for it to eat. I do feel like they care about teh animals its just a matter of finding out why they can sell the 150 dollar Bearded Dragons and not a 40 dollar geckos
