HC Topsites
Hello,
A long while back, Herp Center implemented a "Topsites" listing. It was a shared application that existed in the same database that HC did. When Herp Center was upgraded, it was abolished and has never been reimplemented.....until now. The new topsites listing is independent and exists on its own database. This means that it will be unaltered whenever HC is upgraded! If you have a personal site and are looking for a way to help get it noticed, join the HC Topsites! The topsite includes:
"Spiderable" links are links that do not contain a "no follow" attribute. This means that the search engine spiders will also visit your site when they visit HC Topsites! If you are looking to get your site listed on the search engines, this topsites will help you! Also, if you click the "Stats" text beside a listed site, you can review that site and also view their advanced statistics including pageviews, etc. Hopefully this topsites helps some of you get your sites listed and exposed! |

Shouldn't this be in HC News?
I was wondering, what do all those rankings or whatever mean? Unique page views, total page views, unique hits in, total hits in, unique hits out, and total hits out. What does that mean? I notice the numbers change when I select different ones, but I don't know exactly what puts those numbers there.

ITs a ranking system, the site with the highest number of unique hits (unique ip addresses from visitors) is the highest on the list... each time a page that is loaded with the HC rank image on it, get another hit towards you site on the listing...

Yeah, but what do all the other things mean? Did you just describe unique hits in, or unique page views?

Hello,
Here it is broken down: Unique Pageviews: This determines how many unique users have visited the persons site that has the code on it. Total Pageviews: This determines the total amount of pageviews and is normally much higher than the unique pageviews.(page refreshes, users viewing different threads, etc.) Unique Hits In: This is the number of hits that the button has recieved. Curious people use it to see what the topsite looks like or to join themselves. Others use it to check on how their site is doing. Total Hits In: This determines the total number of hits in. If the same person keeps hitting their button, it only counts as one. Unique Hits Out: This is how many people that have clicked the button IN the topsite listing.(To a users site.) People that view topsite lists sometimes are compelled to follow a link to see a site they may not have ever heard of or encountered. Total Hits Out: This determines the total number of hits out. If the same peron keeps hitting their button, it only counts as one. Some people use the topsites as a "gateway" to enter sites they like without having to type anything. The point of a topsites is reciprocal listings. Search engines use reciprocal listings in determining the importance of a site. Every person that joins the topsite lists exchanges a reciprocal link with the topsite list. When search engine spiders visit the topsites list, they also visit the users site. When they visit the users site, they also visit the topsite. By exchanging the reciprocal link, you have a better chance of a higher search engine ranking. I hope this helps you out. (I didn't add it to the news section because it isn't the "site" we have been developing. We will be announcing that in the news section on Sunday. lol) |
