dual boot machine with 2 hard drives - linux on 1 - windows on the other
if you you create seperate partitions and load them both on the same drive - you are asking for errors
bill gates and linus torvald(sp?[the guy who created linux in '91]) did NOT have the same ideas in mind when creating these OSs
everything from linux and windows using different file systems to LiLo - the "Li"nux "Lo"ader - integrating into both the linux AND windows system kernals can create some REAL big issues when running windows - and once its in the windows kernal (since windows isnt open source) - you will most likely not be able to get it out
LiLo will kick in immidiatly after POST on a single partitioned drive - trying to force the system to load linux - and successfully loads bits of the linux kernal BEFORE you get a chance to select an OS
on a 2 drive machine with master drive as windows drive - and slave as linux drive with 2 partitions - primary bootable with linux standard file systems (depending on the size of yer HD - use roughly 90-95% for the primary)- and second logical partition formated with RJFS and create a swap disk with it - and mount to the primary partition in \local\usr\(drive label for the primary linux partition) and that SHOULD do ya...
this makes it so windows and linux have their own seperate playgrounds - in stead of trying to make them play nice together on the same one - cause that just wont happen...
most machines have dual IDE controlers - so you will still be able to have your choice of 2 cd/dvd media drives
i tried to load slackware linux v.10 (closest version of linux in comparison to unix) on an old win98se laptop with a p3 cpu 5GB HDD and 128 MB of ram - laptop was old - the intial load was an attempt at a FULL install including all options - supposed to be around 3 GB - but FILLED the 5 GB drive - went to reload - got most of the way through the reload - on up to the system reboot and root login after the partition/format and keyboard select - tried to mount the PCMCIA type II Xircom NIC/Modem and the system died - complete failure - nothing worked... at which point I got really ticked - CAUSE MY INSTALL DISK (DISK 1) WAS STILL IN THE DRIVE!!! - i didnt wanna burn another ISO image disk at work - as id PREFER not to get in trouble for doing it more than once - 1st time was ok - as it was for "testing" the ISO burning program we recently purcased
i gots myself a kitchen knife - and "recued" my disk from the clutches of the dead machine
so now im out one laptop - and dont get to have a linux box - the last one I had was a beater 486 machine with that I picked up from school for "parts" for $5...

I've got SuSE, and it's good, but I'm still a n00b, despite me messing around with it for 10+ years. Other than that, I like to go to the bar and hang out.

I'm usually busy with the dogs' rehab, the hubby, kids and trying to get through another day with enough daylight left to burn to relax.

Well I don't have much free time these days, since I am now a senior(undergrade) in Computer Science, Computer Technology emphasis with a math minor. But when I do get those brief moments of not staring at the computer or helping someone else stare at the computer, I like to:
Kayak as much as I possibly can before the lakes are all frozen.
Hike
Camp
Run
Play Badminton.....very competitively
Hang out with my friends...especially Happy Hour
Tinker with the 'puters....1 386 turbo, 1 2Ghz P4 with 2GB of Ram and running XP Pro and Linux on dual drives, and 1 dual 1.4 ghz web server.
Do research
Play Bass Clarinet and Violin
volunteer at the local humane society
spend money
I really wish I had more free time

n0\/\/ tr3|\/|bL3 !|\| p|-|34r n00bL3t!!!
j/k
anyway
if you are still having trouble
try here
http://www.linuxquestions.org/
just out of curiosity - why did you pic SuSE anywho? or why are ya runnin linux...
linux opens a world of geek pl345ur3 - but is pretty difficult - thats part of the fun for geeks like me - figuring it out!
for typical home users - windows is the way to go - better compatability - easier to use and configure - and does not maintain a strict egghead system requirement - meaning - windows has evolved into an id10t safe OS - the error messages arent cryptic (unlike like unix/linux - where odds are you will never know what its trying to tell you) - and tech support is easy to get...
try calling your ISP...
You: "HI, I cant get online"
Tech: "OK - I can help you with that - what OS are you using"
You: "Im running a gentoo distribution of linux..."
Tech: "Oh - hold please..."
10 days later...
Tech: "hello - sorry for keeping you on hold so long"
You: "Thats ok - so what can I do about this?"
Tech: "you havent fixed it yet? errr....hold please...."
10 more days pass...
Tech: "Look you linux geek - your smart enough - you installed the @$#^ thing - you fix it!!!"
.....click.....
the you follow up with setting a load of C4 on the PC - and ::cue the insane laugh and:: BOOM!

Hi. I read too much, and write too little, and recently started spending too much time on here just reading stuff. And of course I feed the pets and whatnot, supervise the cleaning of their cages, buy stuff for them.... Yeah. And then when I feel like it I do my homework. I shouldn't've taken summer school, because it's made me really lazy now that school's started - I'm trying to catch up on the half-summer I missed. Well anyway. Thank god I don't have a job.

Not a whole lot of free time on my side as I am a senior undergrad Electrical Engineering student. When not directly taking care of Bob I bike(road), read, play with plants, listen to XM radio, cook, or shoot (pistol and small cal rifle)

Like there is actually free-time! LOL
When not on the computer for one reason or another writing, I read A LOT.
My favorite reading is anything Iguana and Dune, anything Dune, currently reading Battle of Corin, I want to live in that universe. LOL
I also do a lot of reptile-related work for other folks too.

Hmm spare time...???
Well, after feeding, cleaning and playing with our many herps, I enjoy spending time on the forum I am addicted to the internet *Hi, my name is Rachel and I'm addicted to herps and the internet..*
I like reading - everything I can find on reptiles and related topics, to fiction drama, romance, horror, to biographies and autobiographies. I also write a lot! I currently write articles for Reptile Care magazine, and I have always loved writing stories and poetry. I am just starting my final year at university, so I will be writing even more! (I must spend less time on the internet.. i must I must..)
I also enjoy supporting my team Bradford Bulls RLFC - rugby league, and I love spending time with Joe, my friends and my family. The pub is a particularly much-loved spot
We also love to visit places like Chester Zoo and other animal parks when we have the time, money and transport. I like movies, music and tv - give me a glass of wine and a good film any day over the outdoors,. Joe is the adventurer in our relationship and loves climbing.
*Well, spare time over, must get back to serving my masters..*
