thrown away....literally

At yesterdays herp meeting I started talking to a guy that worked for a mass importer. He imports so much that almost every month he throws away or freezes any "left overs".Disgusting. Well I decided to rescue all these reptiles. Anything from these schneider skinks as pictured below to vine snakes....any "junk" reptile he considers. This was pretty much a vent post just to show how reptiles are treated from time to time. These reptiles will be nursed back to health and given away to good homes.

Edit: I had posted this on a canadian forum to begin with. So most of the folks on here are in the US. If anyone is interested in any animals pm me...free of charge, just pay shipping. I will pm you a list.

thanks for reading,
-jason

Actually it makes me want to burn THEM!
It always amazes me how little value some people put on life!

Jason if you wish, feel free to post the list in classified section.
Lets see just what this character considers "junk reptiles!"

Thanks for the kind words. I knew it would burn many people up as it did me. Right now all I am expecting is these skinks and possibly a Bearded Dragon that has an injury in some way. I will have the full 'list' the first thursday of next month. I am sure it will always change.....

Jason....do you think perhaps you misunderstood him.

Yes he works for a large importer. As such, they receive many animals that come to them in very bad shape, including some herps that tear each other apart during shipping, like those skinks.

Their company does not "sell" to the public and only sell their "A" grade to pet stores, kudos to them for that. As for the others, those that can be, are nurse back to health and would be considered "B" grade (nipped tails or other minor imperfections). These "B" grade (not junk) herps are donated to OUR herp society as raffle items and offered to members in good standing for free, rather then to have them destroyed.

I'm very surprised that the generosity and considerate nature of their gesture is being twisted into something it's not.

The man itself that was donateing them was not the one doing this. I talked to him afterwards and his words clearly where that they get so many in there actions from the boss where to freeze them.

Well done for saving these precious lives, but, do you not think that in some way you are now making it worse for the animals - because you are willing to take them in you are condoning the actions of these people, and encouraging them to do it. Surely this is an illegal practice? - can you not report these people.?

But, good luck with the animals, and I do think it's excellent of you to take them in and care for them. I hope they do well in your care, if we were in the US I would be snapping your hand off to help.
