Joe, the snow is not too bad and somewhat expected in the alps -- even in July... the nasty stuff is the golf-ball and tennis-ball sized hail we get sometimes!!! It does some serious damage every year (most cars have insurance for hail-damage) and you don't want to be outside and risk getting hit by one of those... it comes down HARD!!
PS -- you got REALLY lucky up on that mountain in the lightning storm!! Mother nature can really dish it out sometimes, huh?

Don't like the sound of the hail...I'll take the snow any day at least that is only cold.

Mother nature sure does like to test us doesn't she? I have had loads of near misses (sp) with lightning....all of them whilst climbing actually oh well keeps it interesting

I'm glad your ok Jay!
I have surge protectors all over my house. BUT, I still unplug the computer and phone lines/ answering machine when a storm hits. Our neighbors place was hit by lightening and it surged into our house and fried a bunch of stuff
I learned MY lesson with lightening!

when it comes to storms, i've seen too many of them! we've had rain here every evening for the past week. usually it is accompanied with strong winds, lightning, and very very very dark skies. I used to have surge protectors on all of my tanks but then I got more animals and less space.....go figure.
