Dont Use Duck Tape as a Quick Fix!!!
The screen on my ball python tank got a hole in it when my son dropped something on it...so I just pulled out the duck tape and tossed it on the screen as a quick fix until I could get another screen at the show next weekend. Well Orion, the smallest ball, found the tape and it got wrapped around his head... I found him this morning when I turned on the lights. Good thing too. It was covering both eyes but luckily didnt cover his nose. I worked VERY slowly and finally extracted him from his prison.and he is ok...so just a warning to EVERYONE...dont use tape of any kind....thanks for listening....Lyn

I'm with you there Lyn.. we learned from a bad experience too, when we taped a heat pad to the side of our baby collards' viv last year, and on returning from a day out found three of them taped up - typical! Luckily all were fine, but it was no laughing matter really and could have ended in a much worse situation.

Good advise Lyn, the use of adhesives is something that we all have to be very careful with. Sometimes just the fumes can be very harmful to an animal.
ps: From all the old guys like me out here, it's Duct tape. lol

That's advice everyone should heed. I learned that lesson when our cornsnake Pumpkin Jack got totally tangled up and stuck to a piece of electrical tape that was holding our thermometer cords to the glass. Some of you may remember from my posts that day. He was so badly stuck all along most of his body from tail right up to lower jaw that I was sure we were going to lose him, and at one point I couldn't tell if he was still alive as we were trying to get him free. It took us two hours of soaking him in warm water and using very gentle pressure to pull the tape away from his body, and a little bit of olive oil on his jaw was the only way to get that part loose. I learned my lesson well, and I will NEVER put tape anywhere near my snakes again!

My home repair kit includes a roll of duct tape, a tube of super glue, and a stapler Looks like my cage repair kit will have to be different though, good advice.

I use vegetable oil to free snakes that are caught in glueboards. Just pour the oil on and within minutes the snake can free itself. I imagine it would work the same with other adhesives. Much less stress on the animal than trying to peel them off.
Also works on mice if you ever decide to free one. No hair lost in the process, just a good bath needed afterwards.

With Jack, my husband and I were afraid it might hurt him or kill him to put the oil all over him. So it's safe then?

I had tape in a shedding corns tank once, only to find the skin on the tape.... I found it rather funney, but I have had a near death experience with electrical tape..... Therefore I DONT suggest useing it as a shed aid...

A four year old girl I knew, said that it could fix everything but birds! We naturally ended up calling it Bird Tape. We use Bird Tape for just about everything, but I'll remember not with Herps or Birds!
