Try to get as many addresses of galleries as possible,and make a portfolio.There are also some art galleries who sell art through the web,but they have usually too many artists on it,so I would go for a gallery with a real shop!
I used to exhibit in Las Vegas in a gallery,but I learned from it: 1.it had about over hundred artists,and 2. you had to pay every month a few hundred dollars to rent the wall where they hang your paintings,so I quit 'cause it didn't feel right!
In a small gallery you pay nothing if they think you can sell!

Once I saw a website where they had a nice quote which I like and it gives hope to artists who try professional!It says: "More artists today are making a good living from their art than at any other time in history.Many have become financially independent.."!

Downside to that though is that my stuff's in ND, I live in MD. Plus I sold some or gave it away, like the bullfrog painting. That's ok though, its just a hobby.
