Hello,
It appears to be a publicity stunt. I didn't see anything on the shell, and he already stated that he is going to try and profit from the story and the turtle. This is just a way for him to get some exposure.

I don't see anything either. Some people make it so hard for the rest of us to be taken seriously!

I think I see what he is talking about but only because I was looking for it. I doubt I would have noticed it otherwise.
Power of suggestion perhaps?

I saw "the face" too but then I showed the picture to someone else without saying anything and they didn't notice. I think that it is camera angles and lighting...Some people

the face...

you know, i have looked several times and I can't quite make out anything particularly demonic on there. i read another article where the author suggests that he sort of sees that rabbit guy (frank) from the movie donnie darko.

i see faces in everything...it's a game for me. trees, clouds, children's abstract fingerpainting...there is a tree up at the university of maine that totally has a profile of george washington on it...

...but as for this turtle, i see maybe a cow face? or it kinda looks like goofy, something with a big round nose that comes out and two big nostrils.
