    Mega Ray Bulb

    Hello,

I just wanted to let people know about my experience with Mega Ray SB 100 watt self-ballasted Flood lamps. I bought 6 of these and received them in January. Since then, three have burnt out when I first turned them on in the morning. I paid $46.95 a piece for them. After doing some searching on the internet I saw a suggestion from someone saying to make sure you have the fixture plugged into a surg protector so I have now done this with my 3 remaining bulbs We will see how this works. I have decided to take a loss with this purchase because the company requires a 15% restocking fee, plus $10.00 for each bulbs returned. Then you only get a bulb back with the remaining 6 month warranty on it. This would be at least a $72.15 pay out for me to return the bulbs. Then I have the hassle of shipping them and paying postage. I have gone back to Zoo Med products.

    Re: Mega Ray Bulb

I just sent Bob (the owner of reptileUV) an email regarding this post. If his bulbs are burning out prematurely then he needs to correct the issue. You paid for the bulbs once already, why would there be a restocking fee when its broke? You don't restock broken items, you throw them away or send them out for repair. The only cost the consumer should incur should be the cost of shipping on broken items.

I would have to agree with Rich, let them know that there was a problem with them so they can find out what went wrong, and prevent this from happening again. I can imagine how frustrating this is for you.
    Good Luck!

There is no restocking fee for broken bulbs. (Bob is going to have is developer ammend the page to include a note so it is more obvious to those who read the return policy.) The restocking fee applies to people who purchased a light or 2 and then decided they only needed one and wanted to return the second. (That is just an example.)
You would be responsible for the shipping charges, which every company I have ever dealt with requires.
I am going to note that the MegaRay is still the best bulb out there. If anyone does decide they would rather use another bulb, please do some research on it. The UVGuide website is a great place to research and learn about UV lighting.

And instead of ranting on a forum,....contact the supplier themselves. Often they can clear things up to your satisfaction.
If you get no help THEN you can reasonably start telling people that you have had a problem.
A good supplier will want to know if there is some sort of issue with the product. It's their reputation at stake!

I have been debating on buying one for our iguana. But recently I seem to be reading information just like this all over the place for the last few months. Really starting to think the bulbs aren't as good as everyone claims they are.

    Re: Mega Ray Bulb

They have brand new bulbs now. I just got mine in but haven't used it yet but i did test them for a few days and they are putting out the UVB that they claim. They are partnered with a German manufacture now. Their customer service is a little rough, trying to get a hold of them is like trying to get a hold of the president but when you finally do they are very helpful especially Jimmy Kuhn. I've had good success with the Sunforce from bigappleherp. The zoo med powersun is a decent bulb but it is pretty weak in UVB output (at least the one i have is). Here are a few pics of the new Mega Ray.
