Hi Beth
I think abbreviations like BP (Ball Python) and Chinese Water Dragon are fine. If people don't know what it is, they usually ask. The biggest problems are the posts that have no capital letters, no punctuation and abbreviated computer words (like Chronic's example: "i hav no clu wut ur sayin") Posts like that make reading them VERY tedious and frustrating. Sometimes I've spent so much time trying to figure out what the question is that I'm either too irritated to write a response or I just don't have the time anymore!

Hello,
Yes, abbreviating herp names is something we all do. When you are in this hobby, learning the abbreviated names just comes with the hobby. Like Andrea said, its those that write everything in shorthand that makes things difficult. I have added the spellcheck to the site in an effort to cut down on the shorthand. |

As English is my first language and yes Merlin you did post absolute gibberish so here is an example of my second language called Afrikaan, which originated from Dutch but is an amalgamation of a number of European languages only spoken in South Africa.
