This isn't funny anymore...

Okay... so.. I roll over around 4:30. My brother is strewn in all different positions and all I can do is laugh. Until I see that my incense is off the top of my computer and half my candles are on the floor. My first thought is my kitten. And then... I see a snake. A large snake hanging half way off my snake rack. Being that it was dark, I couldn't tell who it was until I saw Scion IN HER TANK, sleeping soundly. It's just my luck that if I have an escapee, it's going to be the biggest snake I have. Don't get me wrong - I can find her now, but boy is she unhappy. I have no snake hook. She's pressed herself into the back of the rack and is reeeeeally not cooperating. My brother has gone back to sleep and I have to stay awake until my dad wakes up.

So... now that you're all done laughing hysterically what do you propose I do? I have three other snakes in this rack, two of which she's not letting me near. And I just discovered my cat is on my bed. This situation could have been much worse, and when this is over.. I think I'll be laughing.

EDIT
Okay.. now it's funny. Got her back in, unhappy but unharmed.

Hello,
Actually, I didn't find this story funny at all. Like you said, it could have been much worse and that is what I read into as I read what happened. How did she escape? How do you plan to prevent this from happening again?

I am glad you got her back in, but I don't see the humor that you and Donna expressed. A snake escaping, at least in my eyes, is not a funny matter. With the snake having free roam of the house or room, they could get lost, injured, or worse, killed. Also, not knowing how large this snake is, how safe was your kitten?

I know, I have no sense of humor. But I reread the thread several times and still don't see what could be deemed as humorous.

Ah Rich, we all know about your lack of humour

Although there is a serious side to this, it is quite funny, and you were lucky that the snake was recaptured unharmed, and having not harmed anything!! What snake was it? One of our boas escaped a couple of weeks ago, (don't worry Rich, we rectified the situation to ensure it wouldn't happen again!), but snakes are great escape artists. We have had snakes escape in the past when their enclosures were seemingly escape proof - it would seem they are more intelligent than us!

Glad you got the snake back in,. and glad it didn't eat the cat! (Don't worry, this is in fact a joke - I have a sick sense of humour )

Your totally right Rich,

I didnt find it funny I suppose it was the way she mentioned a few things, I worry all the time about mine escaping, especially my Ts as they could easily get into another cage and bite, and I always make sure my cages are secure, I double check everything before bed, I have never had an escapee and dont intend to, well a little lie there, I left the beardeds cage open once and Summer got out, luckily she was ok, although I was panic stricken at the thought and thinking she may of gone down stairs where the dogs are, but sometimes if everything turns out ok in the end, some do see the funny side, its not a case of you not having a sense of humour and I know where you are coming from, I would of been scared witless for the kitten, and or the snake or whatever was out at the time.

I agree with you Rich...

When my cal king got out (problem rectified also lol), I was heartbroken and terribly worried...in my house if something is loose it could be gone forever...we have crawl spaces under the garage, baseboard holes that lead to all kinds of places...and mass amounts of toys and things everywhere lol...he ended up coming out 2 mornings later and we grabbed him, but I was worried sick about him for those 2 days...Insure your snake is caged....it could mean the life of the snake or some other pet in the house ....Lyn

I find it funny because I own 7 snakes and, at seeing her, I jumped 60ft out of my skin as if I were suprised there was a snake in my room. No, it isn't funny that she escaped. And no, it isn't funny that there could have been other animals in danger. My kitten was on the outside of my door and my older cat was under all my covers. My brother put her back up here yesterday and after sliding the lid back on, secured one side and not the other, which he just decided to tell me now.

As for getting her back in the tank...
My dad heard me pacing around up here and came to see what was wrong. I think she likes him over everyone in the house because she let him put his hand back there and pull her out.

i can see the humor in being scared witless, like me living with a free roaming iguana and still when awakening to a big huge green head sticking out from behind my pillow sleeping soundly still nearly killing over then and there...

but if I had an escapee that wasnt to be found anywhere I would pace and worry and cry and search and search. once I found him or her and secured the cage it would be somewhat humorous, i would laugh at my histarical pacing and crying, then the anxiety attack I would probably have.....

Here in Switzerland, most people I talk to have a serious snake phobia. So an escapee snake could cause A TON of trouble for all herpetoculturists in Switzerland if it managed to get out of my house and into my neighbors (ie-- through the plumbing.)
My husband told me the the police and fire dept had been called out to search (and secure) the neighborhood when someone reported that their garter snake was missing!

Aside from my OCD about checking all the lights and doors, I always TRIPLE check that I've locked all my terrariums and that the snakes are still in there before I leave the house or go to bed.

I'm glad you found your snake and no one got hurt.

I lost a baby Bearded Dragon once, never did find it. I think the cats got it. Since then all my tanks are kept locked at all times.

I'm glad you got her back safely.
