But then, I don't understand fears of snakes or lizards in general.
I think the average person doesn't know the difference between poisonous and non-poisonous.

Indeed, particularly since it was an exotic! We may look at it and go, "Oh, a reticulated python!"
To the casual observer it was a big snake with diamond markings on its back!

Our local news reporter teased the story with, "Lady finds a GIANT VENOMOUS PYTHON in her laundry!"

I called and corrected her, but the damage was done, she's a nice lady but one of those, 'all snakes are deadly poisonous' types.
