Gecko ID Assistance

I got a call last night from Angie while she was working. A father and his 2 young sons brought in a gecko that had dropped its tail and hadn't eaten for them in 2 weeks. They were looking to dispose of the gecko as they simply didn't want it. I was asked if I would take it.

I asked what type of gecko it was, and was told a "Crested Gecko". I already have one, so I had no issue providing it with the correct care and agreed.

Well one look at this thing and I knew it wasn't a crested gecko when it got home last night. My first reaction was that it was a bibrons gecko or some sort of house gecko.

These pictures aren't the best, but this little girl was not interested in having her picture taken.

Anyone recognize this gecko?

Re: Gecko ID Assistance

I ran a few searches on the white spotted gecko and compared pictures. I also agree that is what it is. Thanks for the help!

Re: Gecko ID Assistance

I agree also. It looked a little too large to be a house gecko. Nice acquisition Rich!

Re: Gecko ID Assistance

Thanks for the replies everyone but it appears I won't be needing to know what this little girl was. I went to see if she had eaten any of her crickets and found she had expired.

I am guessing infection as her tail was freshly dropped and her housing was less than adequate. It contained many items that were collected outside and from how they were keeping and feeding her, I doubt they were ever cleaned.

For the past 2 weeks she was fed a diet of vegetables. They said she refused to eat. (Perhaps it has to do with her having been an insectivore. ) They also didn't heat the tank in any way. The people that were looking to dispose of this gecko actually had it given to their kids. They had told Angie that the tail was already gone. From their setup, I would guess the previous owners before them weren't caring for it correctly either.

Anyways, thanks for helping me ID her. I know this may sound cruel or odd, but I am glad she died now and not a week from now when I was attached.
