Shipping Reptile's & The Organizations Involved

I have been off and on putting together for a post on "How To Properly Ship Reptiles".

All that information on shipping I have been able to glean from various forums and breeders, referencing their web sites and placing special emphasis on important points of interest.

However while reading various older posts I ran across a little sub-note on several to check with these organizations to make sure your not in violation of any federal or state laws.

These organizations are: USDA
IATA
APHIS
USFWS

I was intrigued with what these organizations had to do with Shipping reptiles so I began checking into each web site.

This is what I understand at this point that none of the above really has anything to directly do with the shipping process. Trying to delve into each web site just left me more and more confused.

The USFWS is about the only one I am aware of because of their survey and research in banning large snakes that may be invasive to the southern US states.

My main questions is to get a different understanding of what these organizations really do for shipping of reptiles or are any of these organization's more involved with licensing of reptiles for breeders, researchers or zoo's.

I appreciate any insight you may have.

Re: Shipping Reptile's & The Organizations Involve

For the most part these organizations are not concerned with the actual shipping process but rather with the location the animal is at the beginning and where it will end up. Their regulations will be specific to those areas
As far as I know there are no government agencies involved with the actual shipping process and the policies are set by the shipping company itself.
Unless you are shipping across national borders.
