Re: I Almost Bought This Book
I think the book sounds quite interesting (especially with the background provided by Breck ). I love herps, but I can't say it's wrong to eat them. They're just as edible as any cow, and who decided cows are ok to eat and lizards aren't? I've eaten snake, alligator, and frog legs. Personally I found the 'gator a bit tough, but the frog legs were good. I can't justify eating them often though. They taste JUST like chicken, and I can buy chicken for a lot less than the price of frogs' legs
On a side note, I always found it amusing how Americans are grossed out by the thought of eating insects or spiders, but lobster and shrimp are classy dishes. Have you SEEN one, lol. Looks kind of buggy to me. It even has an exoskeleton, no bones, buggy eyes, antennae, and a bunch of legs. And they're crustaceans, just like "rolly-pollies".

Re: I Almost Bought This Book
It's all about culture and I am very interested in culture foods from different areas around the world including some from the U.S. that ain't quite as common. I've tried gator, turtle, and frog legs. I liked all of them except turtle. Some people feel wrong for eating these kinds of animals, but really they're just the same as chicken, cow, or fish. We just need to leave the endangered ones alone and those that eat herps need to be scariose and resourceful. I want to try snake. Herps are a common food source in the south. They're not an uncommon food source down here.

That is REALLY an interesting sounding book. I think I'll be on the lookout for a copy!
