Re: Shocked at Petco
i usually go to petland, and a few of the guys I talk to there are excellent when it comes to advice and care, and actually own several reptiles themselves. however, the other day we wandered into both petsmart and petco (they are neighbors in my city) and it was as bad as you all say. baby geckos as thin as holocaust survivors with almost no hides on calcisand, kingsnakes housed together...... it was pretty gross. petsmart seemed better than petco tho, at least in my area.

Re: Shocked at Petco
i used to go to petland, but the one closest to me closed down, and the other one that I know of is really dirty. they always have dead animals. but the one that closed down, then knew their stuff, and were mainly a herp and fish centered business. I miss that place...

Re: Shocked at Petco
the one by me does puppies mroe than anything else. however, they are heavy in herps and fish (arachs seem to creep into the herp territory though.....)
2 times now I have found mites on their snakes. however they snape to it once I point it out. and I truely believe it to be an aspect of a busy petstore that they dont notice a bp with mites (but to me, 1 bp sitting in a tree with 5 other hatchlings all sitting in the bowl means mites (and I was right)). really though, there is so much to take care of for these guys, i do have alittle pitty. for their own herps, they do everything. a store full is hard to care for, but they try.... those of them that actually know what they are doing

Re: Shocked at Petco
One subject that I haven't yet heard discussed: We have all walked into pet stores and have seen sick, Malnourished animals. How many of those sickly and starved animals came direct from the breeder?

Re: Shocked at Petco
That's a good question. I myself can't answer it though.

Re: Shocked at Petco
Well, Most breeders worth there own salt, send animals that are eating already. But (at least at the petstore I work at) Occasionaly we will get reptiles in from the breeder that ar'nt doing as well, usualy only the Anoles and House Geckos though.
