The Danger of Doing Research
There have been a few posts here about Varanids lately. They weren't an animal I previous had much interest in before. I thought monitors were neat to look at, but beyond that, I hadn't given them much thought. But one of the posts a while back sparked my interest, and I've been doing a LOT of research on them since then - at least what's available online, so far, and I'm ordering a couple of books.
So what's the problem, you say?
Now I find myself wanting one. Stupid available information.
I won't get one. I certainly don't need more than one large evil reptilian overlord at the moment, and my ig definitely has that covered. And it really is enough just learning about them and reading the studies surrounding them. Still, a year ago, I barely knew what they were, and now I find them fascinating. Quite a change. It just goes to show you how fascinating any one creature can be once you really start learning about them.
Has this happened to anyone else here?

Re: The Danger of Doing Research
ive always loved monitor's...my dad told me what they were..cause I would watch the old dinosaur movies with footage of a *monitor with added spikes or what not walking in a small scale town or scene*....they are neat!

Re: The Danger of Doing Research
Typh I have the same problem by being a subscriber to Reptiles Magazine.
Almost Every month I see something that catches my eye and piques my interest.
Fortunately I have learned to exercise self control!
My lady is very understanding.
But there DOES come a point,..............

Re: The Danger of Doing Research
i have never really wanted a snake until I started hanging out here and learning more and seeing photos.
I also think chinese water dragons are really neat and would love to have one. I also know I don't have the space, time or energy at the moment.

Re: The Danger of Doing Research
Sad what we do to ourselves. Self control is *definitely* a good thing.

Re: The Danger of Doing Research
I have a list of reptiles I want that extends as far as the reptiles I read about. lol There are a few I intend on getting when space and time permit it, but for now I just read about them and think of the nice enclosures I could build for them. lol
As it is, we were given a 50 gallon hex tank and stand. It's in my living room and is completely empty.
I have decided to let Angie choose what will reside in there, and we will be adding some Fire Belly Toads or I will be ordering some Poison Dart Frogs. In either case, amphibians are being added to the family when I finish the new enclosure I am working on. lol

Re: The Danger of Doing Research
aaahhhhh, ok, now I am going to whine, lol. I never get anything that I want, just everyone elses problems, lol. The annoying diaper wearing tortoise, a million iguanas that are near death, and take 2 years to come out of it if they are lucky enough, deformed snakes that have the personality of CUJO, that have all got me trained to jump when they scratch at the door to their enclosures, and I sit there and rub their big fat heads until they are happy, (for fear that I know if I dont they will poop smear their entire enclosure, just to teach me a lesson) while getting rammed by the tortoise because I cant rub an iguanas head, and go to the fridge at the same time to get him his greens.
Here is the pitiful part,, I just want MY VERY OWN cornsnake, one that is maybe two weeks old to raise up,, thats it.
Okay I am done whining now, lol
