UGH, Lost Power for 10 Hours Last Night

Well, last night the power went out around 8:00 and didn't come back on until 6:30 or so. When it went out I quickly wrapped all the tanks up with sleeping bags to keep in as much heat as possible.

I left the bathroom light in the on position so it would wake us up when the power came back on. The house was down to 57 and the tanks were at 60. I know this is way too cold. I feel bad for the little guys. My Whites Tree Frog were pretty pale in color, but now that the heat is back (tank back up to 85 at the hottest point) they are all looking better.

The only good thing that happened, was the house was so quiet, that I finally heard my RETF call. Its really quiet. Guess I can't hear them over the fish tank.

We realized how unprepared we were for them had it been winter. I usually don't worry since I have so many friends in different directions I could drive them to, but what if it was a really bad snow and we couldn't get anywhere? Next year I will be stocking up on those hand warmers they use for shipping. I have small tanks or even tupperware I could put them in with the heaters taped to the bottom.

So take note

glad everyone seems to be doing better this morning. You guys must have gotten hit harder than us. We got about 30 seconds of hail about 4 or so and then really nothing but "strong" winds.

Re: UGH, Lost Power for 10 Hours Last Night

our power went out for a few minutes but that was it. a friend of mine who only lives like 10 minutes away lost power at 6 last night and it just came back on recently at noon. we had really strong wind last night and some pounding rain.

glad to hear it came back on and everyone seems to be doing well.

Re: UGH, Lost Power for 10 Hours Last Night

Todd went out and drove around. There was about a 2 mile radius with no power at all. Very eerie. What stunk was he woke up at 1am and the block of town homes next to us had power and we didn't! I was getting ready to run an extension cord from my neighbors outdoor outlet to the frog tanks.

Re: UGH, Lost Power for 10 Hours Last Night

we could, but it hasn't been on our priority list of things to buy. All our power lines are buried. This house didn't lose power, not even for hurricane Isabel which knocked out half the state. And the only thing we worried about for in the past, was the sum pump, which we can manually suck out with our fish tank syphon that connects to the utility sink.

Ive only had the frogs a year now, so this is still a learning experience.

Re: UGH, Lost Power for 10 Hours Last Night

i was looking at some frogs....they seem alot harder to keep.....everything has to be perfect!

it will be like me changing from fresh water fish to salt water...because people say salt water fish tanks are harder to keep then fresh water*

but frogs are cuties!>.< except...those frogs that look like something my boa would throw up. *hes never thrown up lol*..themz are gross -.-

Re: UGH, Lost Power for 10 Hours Last Night

1. no frogs are gross.

2. salt water is easier, the bigger tank you have. a 10 gallon tank is MUCH harder to care for than a 110 gallon tank. The 110 gallon tank almost takes care of itself if you have the proper setup.

3. Frogs are really not that hard. If you can build them a proper enclosure and get the heat and humidity right, its cake after that.

Re: UGH, Lost Power for 10 Hours Last Night

lol I know frogs and toads etc are very special..and do alot of things that no other animal can do like one frog can..have babies out of their back!
but I have both salt and fresh water tanks..only thing you have to do with salt water is get a piece of live rock..and it builds from there, i was just saying thats what most people say when you bring up fish tanks, i love snakes and lizards etc!and alot of people would consider them gross, i guess I have to try it before I diss it! i love dumpy frogs and red eyes i use to have a pac man frog his name was fat albert he lived for a long time and got big r.i.p fat albert
