"Feeding any crickets will kill your turtle"
and
"To much water will drown your Red-Eared Slider"
The RES they had was about 7 inches in a ten gallon tank, the water was only 2 inches high...

No kidding. The little privately owned one here is just awful. It makes PetSmart look like an absolute palace.

They have all the reptiles in a little room you can't get into, and you're looking through glass at them. Sounds good, right, except the tanks they're being kept in are awful. The last time I was in there, there was a sign on a 20 g tank (I'm being generous. It might actually have been a 10 g) announcing 3 different types of turtles and tortoises inside, and there were at least 30 baby turtles and tortoises all cramped and squashed together inside that tank. It was awful. And he'd done that with all kinds of reptiles.

On the other side of the store he had a savanna monitor and a sulcata tortoise in the same enclosure. Both were fully grown, or at least close, and being kept on repti-bark in an enclosure that was really too small for either animal on its own. On the enclosure was a sign demanding that the anonymous person who had written to tell him that these animals were not being cared for right should come and "inform" him on how to do it better (very sarcastic). I just about lost it and would probably have said something if the owner had actually been there.

I really wish I could start my own pet store and put that guy out of business. He's horrible with all his animals. I can't even go in there most of the time, or I get really upset and it ruins my whole day.

Punctuation. It saves lives.

There is a store here that has 3 sulcatas in what looks like a horse trough. Just enough room for them to get by one another. I want to say they are the size of basket balls and all 3 of them have horrible pyramiding. A friend of mine who goes there says its because the were rescued and have been there forever... i hope that's the case. Anyway, i hate going in there, because none of the reptile tanks look even close to clean.

I guess you're right there merlin.

Most are kids that work in stores like Petco. They want a job, so they say, "Sure, I know a lot about those animals or reptiles and they're hired. My wife recently walked into a Petco and was looking at the baby corn snakes. My wife had around her neck an adult corn snake, "Red" to be exact who is about 6'. The young person who works with reptiles asked what kind of snake that was and when my wife told her a corn snake she said, "No Way, do they don't get that big, do they"?

It would be nice if these managers, of these type of Pet stores would educate their staff or at least encourage them to do research into the reptiles or animals they are to care for.
