If they think that boids will take over the US they are wrong. 90% of the US they would die anywhere but FL. There is to much of a temperature change anywhere else. If the burms are out of hand so much, Burm round up in the glades, like they've done the rattle snakes.

in my opinion there are definitely more of the irresponsible than the responsible.
I would have to disagree. I think the responsible people far outnumber those irresponsible people. The problem is the responsible ones are NOT the ones that you see on the news or who are causing the problems.
Negatives always make a bigger splash.

And it would be much easier to find 12 ft pythons than 4 ft rattlers

Re: Feds Move To Ban Pythons & Boas

I can understand putting severe restrictions - even banning - very large species that are commonly sold in pet stores, but not *all* pythons and boas get 12, 15 feet long. They need to start taking some time to actually find out what they are banning instead of just coming down on everything.

I can see where this would spiral, though. That takes out the majority of pet snakes - which means less supplies sold, less feeder animals, etc. That will certainly hit pet stores and rodent breeders online supply places harshly, and could drive prices way up. In turn, that would cause less people to buy snakes, and by association many reptiles, and the whole thing will circle once again. They really need to think this through.

I suppose asking them to make breeders and pet stores responsible for what they're selling would be WAY too much to ask. Much easier to just ban everything and get it over with.

Ah but there in likes the problem!
It would require time and effort to determine what speces was what and how big they grow, and on and on! Then they would have to hire and train inspectors on how to identify and differentiate between species. Its much easier and cheaper to just ban em all!
Regardless of the differences between 25 ft monsters and 3 foot Childrens pythons or sand boas!

They are working on it!

I guess I should have been a little more specific about that statement,, I meant in general as far as all reptiles, not just the big snakes, the number of iguanas that die in the first year far outweigh the number that live through their first year of life,, due to improper care and diet, the number leopard geckos that are fed once a week if they are lucky, the number of cheap turtles (res) thta die because noone will spend the money on a uvb bulb for a 15 dollar turtle,, and the number of tree frogs that die because people buy them for their 3 year olds and expect them to take care of them. Thats what I meant about irresponsible owners versus responsible.
As far as the big snake problems in Florida,, those are just the ones that were released into the wild,,,, I wonder how many have been disposed of in a very inhumane way by people who couldnt deal with their big snake anymore. Thats the part you dont hear about unless they are caught. Not that I am saying dumping them is humane at all, because it is not.

Actually, doing a python round up is would be pretty much impossible since the Everglades national park is almost 2500 Sq. miles. And the park is only a part of the entire ecosystem.

Re: Feds Move To Ban Pythons & Boas

Last i knew, or what was said in the video i posted is that they are paying you for each wild burm you bag. Open season on burms lol.

Typhanie, i posted that same thing.

The econ sucks now as it is, so well put a stop to any extra help of econ. Thats a bright move. I know most show people dont pay taxes, the bigger names do. Pat and Jay at Prehistoric pets, Bob, Mike, Jermy, the list gose on of big name big snake breeders. Most have their own facility, thats taxes on that, what they sell, and all that. Think about the yearly large shows, the hotels, the resturants, the other stuff in that area. It dont just take its toll on one thing. I know they could replace that yearly show with some other thing that would bring money in but, thats not the point.
