p.s.: a 20 gallon tank is 30"x12"x12" (so, 75x30x30cms). Is that correct ???

Re: Boa Adoption - A First For Me
Joao, that is what is known as a 20 long. A standard 20 gal is 24" x 12" x 16"

Re: Boa Adoption - A First For Me
Just a heads up for Angie: when the snake starts to feel better from its infection, he might be a bit less docile!
I think she made great progress! Just don't confuse "tame" with "too ill to put up a fight".

Re: Boa Adoption - A First For Me
She knows all too well how that goes Andrea. I ran an iguana rescue for a few years. Almost all of the "sweet" iguanas turned demonic on us once they had adequate heating, lighting, and diet.
She has only bit me once, and I do not believe it was intentional. lol I will handle her frequently once she has completed her meds, the shed she is in, and has eaten for me.
Until then though, we are limiting contact with water changes and med administration. (I have also been squirting her to help with her shed. Her eyes went blue yesterday.)

Re: Boa Adoption - A First For Me
We have finished the first round of meds and she immediately went into feed mode. She took a medium rat for me without hesitation and followed that up with a jumbo rat. A few days later she was on the prowl and was given another jumbo rat which she ate with no hesitation. I have already looked into purchasing rabbits and guinea pigs and will be going with rodent pro. We are grabbing a small freezer in the next 2 weeks for me to store all my feeders. (Our freezer is already cramped since I keep my rats in there. lol)
As you may have noticed, I started this post with "first round of meds". That is because I have heard a mild wheeze and had him brought back to the vet. He spent last night there and has had blood drawn and a culture set pulled today. He was also very kind and left them a present this morning from his previous feedings, so we also have a fecal being done.
I should have all of the results in a day or 2 and we will begin treating exactly what is wrong with him.
I will keep everyone updated once I know the results.

Re: Boa Adoption - A First For Me
very kind and left them a present, lol. That is great!!! I also just bought a freezer for the rats from rodent pro. I have tried frozen guinea pigs for my boas and they will have nothing to do with them, so I just stick to the xxl rats from rodent pro and the xl.

I get my rats for free, but I may order a few to see the size difference in comparison to what I currently get. I rarely have to buy feeders these days since I hooked up with a guy who breeds rats and uses me as his source to remove the "unwanted" ones. (He breeds for specific traits.)
Every 2 weeks I get roughly 5-10 rats. I keep the ones I need and give the others away to some of my friends that keep snakes.
I figure my first order with them will include a small rabbit and some of the xxl rats. If I am lucky, the rats will be large enough. if they aren't, the small rabbit should be for a little while.
