Re: Boa Adoption - A First For Me
My husband just responds with "whatever" now. He has become used to me dragging things home, from people, to animals, to reptiles, and birds. He has also become used to rats in the freezer and crickets in cages. It is not necessarily his choice, but he gets very angry when he sees how some are treated, and will even tell me to save them. He has trouble now when they die after all of the time and effort, but he was raised a farm kid where you weren't supposed to "care" that much about the livestock, and if it looked like it might die you should either ignore it or put it out of it's misery. He finds he likes the iguana a lot even though he refuses to say the words, he talks to her and always asks if she's been fed and watered and walked for the day. He built a special section of climbing steps and poles for the snakes to play on. Angie sounds like a really good person. Good luck!

Re: Boa Adoption - A First For Me
How do you not fall in love with a pitiful abused iguana?? I know I have a ton that are in my heart,, even the ones that came here too late to be helped.
I tell you though my Wing (red tail boa) who is meaner than snot,, has made his way into my heart.

Re: Boa Adoption - A First For Me
Hello,
Well I brought the little guy home today. He has some issues, but nothing like I was anticipating. He has a wound that is healing on the top of his "nose". (Above the nostrils.) It came from the bite of a rat apparently. He has a URI, and I have already spoken with the vet. Angie should be bringing me some Baytril home tonight. He is a little underweight and slightly dehydrated, but nothing even remotely serious. I am going to hold off on feeding him until I attack this URI. So far, his temperament has been awesome. This could be a result of him being ill or cold (Its a boy at this point.) but I am optimistic that he is just a sweet snake. His housing was a 20 gallon tank that was unheated. He has some overturned scales and creases from the cramped conditions, but those should right themselves now that he has all sorts of room to move around. A few sheds from now and he should look much better. To give you an idea of how bad the housing was, think of this: 20 gallon tank with a 5 foot, 7.5-9 lb snake in it. |
