Got really lucky while gone
So I left the frogs in the care of my next door neighbor. Don't get me wrong, he did a great job. Misted every day and made sure the water bowls were filled. Weasley, the great trouble maker almost did us in, in a big way.
He likes to sit on top of the large enclosure looking down at the frogs. Well apparently while I was gone, he didn't have a good enough view. He pushed the heat element from on top of the mesh, to on top of the wood. I came home to a smoldering top of the enclosure. I have a black hole on top. I think if we were a day later I wouldn't have had a house. I didn't think of telling my neighbor about the heat element. I thought it was secure up there. Not secure enough.
Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving.
On a side note, I had a wonderful time with my family. Great food, went to Niagara falls, did some shopping, went to the Albright Knox art gallery and the drive wasn't painful!

Glad to hear you had a good time and didn't lose your house. I've also come home before to a black hole in plywood. Makes you a little more careful after that for sure.

Re: Got really lucky while gone
Glad to hear everything is alright! I did that last year,, one of my Mega Rays was not clamped good enough or something and it fell off, I just happened to be napping on the couch when every single smoke alarm in my house went off all at once because it burned a hole in the carpet, thank god for alarms or my house probably would have burned to the ground

Re: Got really lucky while gone
I'm already thinking about how i'm going to wire connect it to the mesh. I think I'm also going to raise it up 1/4 inch with some scraps of floor tile. ugh.

Re: Got really lucky while gone
Thats SCARY! I'm glad that there was no more damage than a bit of scorching! It could have been much worse!
This is a good reminder to all to have those heating devices secure! Whether or not there are other animals, small children or whatever who have access to the enclosures, if that heater can move,... fasten it down!

Eek! I'm glad you just had a smoldering spot and not a yard full of firefighters trying to put your furniture out!
*note to self time to check how well things are wired down*
