Re: reiterate the search button?
I myself have asked a few questions and was told to follow a certain link
and it was the link to the caresheets at least three times. But I feel the caresheets is only one persons view and also I didnt know where to find them but have recently made a point of looking for them first. But I still like to ask the question and get 5 or 6 different views on the matter. Its more personal and lets face it there is a lot of false info on the web. Like feed your Ig protein it is still on so much litterature out there I am shocked every time I read this stuff. I think it should rather be asked a million times and answered the right way instead of making the ppl feel unwelcome and they end up getting bad advice on another site as I mentioned before I have found most answers I have looked for on this forum. My two and a half year old son asks me the same question a hundred times and I answer him every time, I dont tell him to look it up. this would stop him from asking me and make him feel stupid I understand where you are coming from as even in my business my staff ask me the same questions and it is sometimes annoying but if I dont answer them and they make a mistake who's fault is it??

I think it's less about that, and more what I think others have mentioned that people want to participate in the forums, or that they just don't want to take the time to look things up - they just want an easy, instant answer. Making things more obvious will not help them because they won't use it anyway - it'll just annoy us when we log on. Good forum etiquette dictates that a person should at least do a quick search if they are new to a forum and unsure if the question has been asked before, however, because no matter what we do there will always be people who don't want to do a search, it's best just to accept it and answer the question or direct them to an alternate thread. Besides, a lot of times someone asks something that we all have heard before, but touches on a point that's just slightly different, and we all learn a little something new. ![]()

Re: reiterate the search button?
I agree Typh, that there are some people who just want to ask questions and don't want to spend the time doing their own research, but I also think the buttons aren't that clear. Would it hurt to add a few more links to them or make them that much more obvious? It took me FOREVER to find them. Now that I know where they are, its easy for me.

Re: reiterate the search button?
I personally would make the caresheets stand out a bit more, one way or another.
But I agree there are some people who don't want to do the work and are just going to ask the same questions that we answer all of the time, like, "How many adult Savannah Monitors can live in a 55g tank?" or "I have two (insert lizard here) and they are best friends forever and they love to sit on each other and head bob at each other, but one is 3 feet long and the other is only one foot long, why is one a dwarf?" But there are also intelligent questions that you can tell are more specific and they everyone can learn a thing or two from, I think the more specific the question the more interested I am. If the thread is titled, "??????Question??????!?!!?!?!!?" Then I don't want to look at it, but if you put it in the right area and title it specifically, like "Feeding My Mali Uro" I'll happily oblige and look for the information as long as it shows you have a cursory amount of knowledge on the subject. Make sense? |

Re: reiterate the search button?
I had trouble finding the carsheets link. I know I joined right when the site started taking its new shape, but it still took me forever.
See how the buttons are at the top, for "donate, my info, gallery, forums and Home?" Could we make one for carsheets to go along with them? This way its EVERYWHERE.

Re: reiterate the search button?
May be it can be added to quick links.

Re: reiterate the search button?
Hello,
I have placed a drop menu containing every caresheet we currently house to the header of the page. It can be found below the "Log In" location at the very top of the page, on the right side. It is more visible, and links directly to each individual caresheet. |
