Re: Heating Controversy - Your Input

seems like common sense to me not to do something like that. heat pads are definitely meant for the outside of the tank. its scary someone would recommend wrapping it in anything.

Re: Heating Controversy - Your Input

I've personally never heard of this and find the only thing that needs to be said is "Installation Directions". I've never had a heatmats directions tell me to put it in the cage or wrap anything around it. In fact most state Do not place between insolating materials, leave air space to avoid glass damage, and best used with thermostat and for use outside of cage (I had one that was also for use in fish tanks that in that applcation could be use inside of the tank).

The wonders that the uneducated bring never fail to amaze me. And the stubborness of those who "know it all" is even better.

My question would be, if they followed the instructions and adhered the heat pad to the outside glass, how do you wrap it in a towel????????

Re: Heating Controversy - Your Input

Hello,

I stated the same thing Jay. It was actually part of my reasoning. What this person is suggesting is actually violating the manufacturers instructions.

Just so the staff and members know, this person is NOT a member of HC. They "were" a member of HC until we had removed "her" for consistently posting bad advice and then getting rude after she was corrected with facts.

The staff likely knows who this person is, but her name is not required in this thread. It does however justify even further why she was removed. lol

Can I add this to my "cut the cord off the heat rock" statement I am so fond of???????

That's why I tell people. Don't stop searching for info on your herps at the first answer. You just don't know who it is giving you advice. Scrutinize people, scrutinize.

Here you hit it on the nose, take every thing with a grain of salt. A good book is your best friend and good books are most of time well worth their high price (though somehow I still can't bring myself to spend almost 90 eruo on the book Blue Tongued Skinks, Constributions to Tiliqua and Cyclodomorphu by Hausschild.)

Re: Heating Controversy - Your Input

Can we say this should have been a non-issue? Wow! I haven't been here but once a month ago in several months and to come in to see this ridiculous suggestion of wrapping a heat source is just wrong! I actually had a Under Tank Heater that came with a surrendered Bearded Dragon set-up under a 55 gal. tank a couple of years ago. I never used the Under Tank Heater, but as I cleaned all the bark and moss out of the Bearded Dragons cage I had noticed a huge scorch mark on the glass where the Under Tank Heater burnt some since it did not have much of an air pocket for any kind of additional heat distribution between the stand it sat on and the glass itself.

Sometimes I wish I would listen to the little voices more and take pictures of some of this stuff.
