Need some ideas

This is what our member has to say: Don't think a snake is going to work out. My wife isn't too found of them. Thanks for all the ideas though it's getting me ...

Re: Need some ideas

Red eye tree frogs are sensitive. A breeder I know has to keep em at 18 Celcius (under 70 F) to live well. Not that good at handling either. Amphibs aren't condusive for handling anyways, more salmonella and it hurts their skin when we touch them.

Sigh. Why does nobody listen to me when I say SKINKS!! A schneiders/berber skink is PERFECT for a child. These aloof creatures have the tempermant of a Bearded Dragon but the smartness of 'slightly smarter than a Bearded Dragon'. To sum it up, they don't just stare absently at a wall all day. They eat only 2-3 crickets every other day (though mine got chubby on 3). No spraying/misting...just a 75watt heat lamp in a 10 gallon cage, though I reccomend a 29 gallon cage with a 100 watt bulb on one end. GREAT pets.
Edit: Not to mention the fact that schneiders skinks wholesale at shows for 10-15 CDN dollars (Wow!). Live for like 10-15 years I've read. At a store they are like 40 bucks CDN. Make a nice colony of females, easy to breed, easy to love. Everyone wants a slice of mine...well not a slice, the whole thing.

Also crested geckos are AMAZING for kids. They are tough, very tough. Trust me, even infants can't seem to break a bone.

Re: Need some ideas

Well Crested Geckos are very popular these days. I'll look at those skinks as well. Although skinks seem to be harder to find around here.

Re: Need some ideas

Water Dragons are pretty gentle reptiles, and they grow pretty big, so she probably won't squish it. Of course, you'd probably have to do most of the cleaning and care for it, but then, you'd have to that for any pet of hers at this point.

Well, I know who to talk to when I get my Red Eye Tree Frog! About this 70 degree thing.... Is it a must? In the summer, we keep our house at 77 and sometimes we turn the AC off and it gets to 81.

Re: Need some ideas

Yeah it's not really a care issue although I have enough to do already. It's basically something that she can hold when she wants to. I'd be looking after it 100 percent. Chinese water dragons are pretty cute but I'd have to build this whole waterfall pauladarium thing, fully document it, take a million pics and write an article or I'd get my butt chewed off Well that and I'd want to build a fantastic enclosure for it.

Re: Need some ideas

Hehehe Mike!

Here's what you do!
1. Get a C.W.D.
2. Start a new thread "2nd C.W.D. Project" and follow the same pattern I did
3. ^^^ Build a super awesome enclosure

PS

I know you want to!
